What happened to Iranian Languages and Scripts?

There used to be an excellent web site called Iranian Languages & Scripts (IL&S) at http://iranianlanguages.com, but there has been nothing at this address for several months now. This site had introductory information, samples of writing, and bibliographies for all the languages of the Iranian language family, as well as some good articles on the history of the Iranian language, and on-line texts from the Avesta. If anyone knows a new address for this web site please leave a note with the new URL in the comments at the end of this post.

New information! (April 5, 2007) An archive copy of IL&S is available at:

While the site was still operating I downloaded the following very informative web pages:

4/26/07 Note: It appears that someone hacked the server in my home office where I put these files, so it may be a while before they are accessible again.

  1. I am going to be rebooting the computer that hosts the web server for these pages from time to time, so if you try to access them and are unable, try again in a few hours. (The computer that hosts this web server does double duty as a software test platform for the software I develop.)

  2. I was just trying to find out the same thing myself when I found your page. I really miss that dictionary, it was the only one with audio and transcription for Persian learners.

There is a download available from a Russian site of the text of their Basic Persian lessons for anyone who is interested:

    and click on:
Базовый курс персидского языка (176.11 KB)

I had to add the .zip extension as well (or .rar, I can’t remember).

  3. Dunno about the site, but try seeing if http://www.archive.org/ has a stored copy.

  4. My webserver is down so you won’t be able to access the Il&S pages until I get back from vacation at the end of the week and restart the server.
